The relationship between the Chow groups and the Hodge cohomology groups of a smooth complex projective variety has been largely mysterious. Some insight is provided by the conjectures of S. Bloch and A. Beilinson arising from \(K\)-theory. If \(X\) is a surface, a theorem of Mumford says that representability (or finite-dimensionality) of CH\(_0(X)\) implies vanishing of \(H^{2,0}(X)\). In the article under review, the author studies the geometry of a surface in the spirit of Mumford's theorem. She proves: Theorem 1: If \(X\) is a general projective \(K3\) surface, the rational equivalence class of a point is dense in the complex topology. Theorem 2: If the rational equivalence class of generic point on a smooth projective surface \(X\) is Zariski dense then \(h^{2,0}(X)\leq 1\).
