A non-hyperelliptic curve \(C\) of genus 4 is canonically embedded in \(\mathbb{P}^3\) and is contained in a unique quadric surface \(Q\). Assume that \(Q\) is smooth. Let \(SU_C (2,K_C)\) be the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on \(C\) of rank 2 and determinant \(K_C\), and let \(W^r\) be the Brill-Noether loci of \(SU_C (2,K_C)\) parametrizing bundles \(E\) such that \(h^0 (C, E) \geq r+1\). \textit{W. M. Oxbury, C. Pauly} and \textit{E. Previato} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 350, No. 9, 3587--3614 (1998; Zbl 0898.14014)] studied the geometry of \(W^r\) and proved that \(W^2\) is isomorphic to the Donagi-Izadi cubic threefold in \(\mathbb{P}^4\). In the paper under review, a new proof of this result is given. The author investigates the moduli space \(M(2)\) of semistable sheaves of rank 2 with Chern classes \(c_1=\mathcal{O}_Q(1,1)\) and \(c_2=2\) over the quadric surface \(Q\) containing \(C\). He proves that \(M(2)\) is isomorphic to \(\mathbb{P}^3\) and that the restriction map \(\Phi:M(2)\rightarrow W^2\), sending \(E\) to \(E|_C\), is birational and is given by the complete linear system \(|I_C(3)|\). This proves that \(W^2\) is isomorphic to the Donagi-Izadi cubic threefold. In the paper [Cent. Eur. J. Math. 7, No. 4, 617--622 (2009; Zbl 1194.14051)], the author also studied the case when \(C\) is contained in a quadric cone.
