    A Strang splitting scheme applied to semilinear evolution equations is analysed in the framework of abstract Banach spaces. For the class of parabolic equations and their discretisations, it can be shown that the Strang splitting is stable and convergent of second order. In certain situations even positivity is preserved. Numerical tests are presented.
