Why Are Some Titles Missing?

The MaRDI Portal aims to provide a comprehensive and FAIR view of mathematical research data by aggregating metadata from a variety of trusted sources, including zbMATH Open, swMATH, arXiv, and others.

However, you may occasionally encounter items in the portal that appear without a title or other descriptive content. This is not an error, but a result of licensing restrictions.

Background

Each data source integrated into the MaRDI Portal has its own terms of use and licensing policies. While many providers allow the reuse and display of metadata (including titles and abstracts), others restrict the redistribution of specific fields, such as publication titles or full texts.

In particular, some metadata records only allow us to display identifiers (such as DOIs or internal IDs) but not the associated human-readable content.

Our Approach

In keeping with legal and ethical standards, the MaRDI Portal:

• Respects all source licenses and usage conditions;
• Displays only the fields we are legally allowed to show;
• Includes links to the original sources where full information is available;
• Prioritizes openness by collaborating with data providers to increase transparency and access over time.

If you come across an item with a missing title and believe that the source permits its display, or if you are a data provider interested in enabling broader access, please use the “Report a Bug” feature located at the bottom of the corresponding item page. This allows us to review the case and, where appropriate, update the display in accordance with licensing terms.
