The implicit Euler method combined with a simple product integration scheme is proposed to solve a nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integro- differential equation. Convergence of order one is proven and numerical results are presented. The arguments why only first order methods are considered, are not completely true, since the fractional linear multistep methods of \textit{Ch. Lubich} [Math. Comput. 45, 463-469 (1985; Zbl 0584.65090)] allow high-order convergence for this type of problems.
