For any reasonable monoidal category \({\mathcal C}\) there is a bicategory \(\text{Mod}({\mathcal C})\) whose objects are monoids in \({\mathcal C}\), whose morphisms are bimodules, and whose 2-cells are bimodule morphisms. If \({\mathcal C}\) is also \(k\)-linear, the functor into \(k\)-linear spaces represented by the unit of \({\mathcal C}\) has a left adjoint \(F\). Each ordinary group \(G\) can then be regarded as a monoid in \({\mathcal C}\) by applying \(F\) to the group algebra \(kG\). The author denotes the full sub-bicategory of \(\text{Mod}({\mathcal C})\) consisting of the objects \(FkG\) by \(M({\mathcal C})\). He defines the crossed product of \({\mathcal C}\) with a group \(G\) to be the hom monoidal category \(M({\mathcal C})(G,G)\). Duality here is expressed by a monoidal equivalence between \({\mathcal C}\) and \(M(M({\mathcal C})(G,G))(H,H)\) for some appropriate dual group \(H\) for \(G\).
