Let \(f: M\to M\) be a selfmap, and \(f_\pi: \pi_1(M)\to \pi_1(M)\) be the homomorphism on the fundamental group of \(M\) induced by \(f\). Two elements \(a\) and \(b\) in \(\pi_1(M)\) are said to be \(f_\pi\)-conjugate if there is an element \(u\) in \(\pi_1(M)\) such that \(b = u a f_\pi(u^{-1})\). The Reidemeister number \(R(f)\) of \(f\) is defined to be the number of \(f_\pi\)-conjugacy classes. It is an important invariant in Nielsen fixed point theory. A manifold is said to have the \(R_{\infty}\) property if \(R(f) = \infty\) for each homeomorphism \(f\) on \(M\). In this paper, the authors consider \(R_{\infty}\) properties of some infra-nilmanifolds: generalized Hantzsche-Wendt manifolds. It is shown that the non-orientable ones always have the \(R_{\infty}\) property. A necessary and sufficient condition for an orientable Hantzsche-Wendt manifold to have the \(R_{\infty}\) property is given. Furthermore, the authors show that the Reidemeister number of any Anosov diffeomorphism on an infra-nilmanifold is finite. This implies that infra-nilmanifolds admitting Anosov diffeomorphisms will not have the \(R_{\infty}\) property.
