The author studies a several complex variables version of the Riemann-Hilbert problem: given a bounded domain \(D\subset\mathbb C^\ell\) and a smooth submanifold \(M\) of \(\partial D\times\mathbb C^m\) the problem is that of finding a smooth holomorphic \(f:D \to \mathbb C^m\) whose graph satisfies: \(\{(z,f(z)); z\in\partial D\}\subset M\). While considering the local situation, the boundary \(\partial D\) of \(D\) is substituted by an arbitrary CR manifold \(S\). Under suitable assumptions on \(S\) and \(M\), the existence is proved of a special involutive subbundle of \(TM\). By Frobenius theorem this admits integral submanifolds, which turn out to be graphs of CR maps from open subsets of \(S\) to \(\mathbb C^m\). Next further conditions are introduced, guaranteeing that these CR maps whose graph is contained in \(M\) are defined on the whole \(S\). Finally, back to the situation where \(S=\partial D\) is the boundary of a bounded domain, conditions are found in order that the CR maps defined on \(\partial D\) holomorphically extend to \(D\). The author points out that the conditions he imposes for solving this several complex variables version of the Riemann Hilbert problem are in general non necessary: they actually lead to solutions enjoying some strong properties that he describes. Methods and results of this paper are related to the general theory of CR manifolds and their mappings [cf. \textit{M. S. Baouendi, P. Ebenfelt} and \textit{L. P. Rothschild}, Real submanifolds in complex space and their mappings. Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press. (1999 Zbl 0944.32040)].
