Let \(\mathcal{M}\) be a von Neumann algebra, and let \(M_{p,q}\) be the Mazur map from \(L_p(\mathcal{M})\) into \(L_q(\mathcal{M})\) defined by \(f\mapsto f|f|^{(p-q)/q}\). The main theorem states that, for \(1\leq p,q<\infty\), \(M_{p,q}\) is \(\min\{p/q,1\}\)-Hölder on the unit ball of \(L_p(\mathcal{M})\). The theorem is first proved for semifinite algebras, and then reduced to the semifinite case using Haagerup's reduction theorem [\textit{U. Haagerup} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 362, No. 4, 2125-2165 (2010; Zbl 1200.46055)]. The proof for the semifinite case is first obtained for Mazur maps on positive elements, and then extended to general ones using some commutator estimates. If the Mazur maps \(M_{p,q}\) are replaced by a general function \(f: \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\), the proof also yields boundedness of some Schur multipliers on \(S_p(L_p(\mathcal{M}))\).
