Let \(M\) be a compact strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold of dimension \((2n+1)\), embedded in an \((n+1)\)-dimensional complex manifold \(X\), \(\theta\) a pseudo-Hermitian structure on \(M\) and \(\rho\) a defining function for \(M\). The Kähler form \[ \omega=\partial\overline\partial\log \left(-\tfrac{1}{\rho}\right) \] gives a metric \(g_+\) on \(\{\rho<0\}\). Then \(\rho g_+\) induces a pseudo-Hermitian structure on \(M^\varepsilon=\{\rho=\varepsilon\}\), that extends continuously to a pseudo-Hermitian structure on \(M\) in the same conformal class of \(\theta\). \textit{C. L. Fefferman} [Ann. Math. (2) 103, 395--416 (1976; Zbl 0322.32012)] produced a \(\rho\) for which \(g_+\) is approximately Einstein near \(M\), i.e. \[ \text{Ric}_{g_+}=-(n+2)\omega+O(\rho^{n+1}). \] It is possible to find another special defining function \(\phi\) such that the volume of the set \(\{\phi<\varepsilon\}\) has the asymptotic expansion \[ c_0\varepsilon^{-n-1}+\cdots+c_{n}\varepsilon^{-1}+ L\log \varepsilon+V+o(1) \] where \(V\) is defined as the renormalized volume, and \(L\) is independent on the choice of \(\theta\). The main result of the paper is the following. When \(n=1\), if \(M\) is the boundary of a complex manifold \(X\) and \(\theta,\widehat\theta\) are two pseudo-Hermitian structures on \(M\). Then \(L=0\) and an explicit integral formula is given for the difference \(V_\theta-V_{\widehat\theta}\). As a corollary, if \(X\) is Einstein-Kähler, an analogous of Chern-Gauss-Bonnet formula for \(\chi(X)\) is given. Relations between the renormalized volume and the CR \(Q\)-curvature are also investigated.
