Asymptotically hyperbolic metrics arise naturally as hypersurfaces asymptotic to null at infinity in Lorentzian spaces which solve Einstein equations. However, some physically relevant questions including the Penrose inequality for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds are unanswered. In the present paper it is shown that, in an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold with scalar curvature \(R_g\geq -6\), large isoperimetric regions exist. Further, in a spacetime which is Schwarzschild-anti-deSitter at infinity and with scalar curvature \(R_g\geq -6\), large coordinate spheres are the unique isoperimetric regions. Also an example which shows the necessity of the curvature assumption is constructed. This way, partial results towards the asymptotically hyperbolic Penrose inequality are obtained. It is known from previous works that a spacetime which is Schwarzschild-anti-deSitter at infinity and with \(R_g\geq -6\) satisfies the Penrose inequality if there exist isoperimetric regions for every positive volume and large coordinate spheres are isoperimetric. The present results show that the second condition is always satisfied.
