The authors consider existence, multiplicity and nonexistence of strictly convex \(C^2\)-solutions for the boundary value problem \[ ((u'(r))^n)'=\lambda nr^{n-1}f(-u(r)),\quad u'(0)=0,\;u(0)=0, \leqno(1) \] where \(n\geq 1\) is the dimension ot the space, \(f(u)\geq 0\) for \(u\geq 0\), and \(f\) is not identical to zero. Problem (1) is studied with or without an eigenvalue parameter. The presented results reveal how the behaviour of the function \(f\) at zero and infinity (in particular against \(u^n\)) and its number of zeros, have a profound effect on the number of nontrivial solutions of the corresponding boundary value problem. The assumption \(f(u)>0\) for all \(u>0\) is not needed.
