A type A (lot) defects sampling plan and its operating characteristic (OC) function are studied under suitable assumptions on the arrangements of the total number of defects. The distributions of the number of defects in a sample for hypergeometric and Poisson models are found and the exact OC functions are calculated. Approximation of the lot OC by the simple Poisson process OC is justified.
