[For part I of this paper see ibid., 151-178 (1998; reviewed above).] This paper is concerned with nonlinear integrable evolution equations in \(1+1\) dimensions arising from constraints of the \(2+1\)-dimensional hierarchies associated to the KP equation, the modified KP equation, and the Dym equation. It is known that there exist links of Bäcklund type and of reciprocal type among the \(2+1\)-dimensional systems. The authors discuss the corresponding links among constrained flows. They also consider squared eigenfunction symmetries generated by solutions of the associated linear scattering problem and extend the links among soliton hierarchies to these symmetries.
