An adaptive refinement strategy for \(hp\)-finite element computations (Q1379041)

A refinement strategy for fully adaptive \(hp\)-finite element solution of linear elliptic boundary value problems is presented. The algorithm is based on the local regularity of the exact solution. A method is given for estimating the local regularity a posteriori. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated for some simple representative problems. The results of the algorithm are compared with those of the \(h\)-version and the \(p\)-version. Exponential rate of convergence of the \(hp\)-strategy is observed.
