A Banach space \(E\) is said to be Asplund if every separable subspace has separable dual. \textit{R. Alencar} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 94, 33--38 (1985; Zbl 0537.47011)] showed that \(E\) is Asplund if and only if for every Banach space \(F,\) the Pietsch integral operators \({\mathcal L}_{\text{PI}}(E,F)\) from \(E\) to \(F\) coincide with the nuclear operators \({\mathcal L}_{N}(E,F).\) Furthermore, Alencar showed that if \(E\) is Asplund then \({\mathcal P}_{\text{PI}}(^mE,F) = {\mathcal P}_{N}(^mE,F)\) for every \(m \in \mathbb N\) and every \(F\) \ [\textit{R. Alencar}, Proc. R. Ir. Acad., Sect. A 85, 131--138 (1985; Zbl 0594.46043)]. The main result here is the converse to the latter result: \(E\) is Asplund if and only if for some \(m,\) \({\mathcal P}_{\text{PI}}(^mE,F) = {\mathcal P}_{N}(^mE,F)\) for every \(F.\)
