Let \(X\) be a compact Kähler manifold and \(g:X\rightarrow X\) biholomorphic. A subvariety \(Z\) of \(X\) is called \(g\)-periodic if \(g^k(Z)=Z\) for some \(k\geq 1\). If the induced action of \(g\) on \(\bigoplus_{i\geq 0} H^i(X,\mathbb C)\) has at least one eigenvalue \(\lambda\) with \(|\lambda|>1\), then \(g\) is said to have positive entropy. Moreover \(g\) is called strongly primitive if there is no bimeromorphic map \(\phi\) from \(X\) onto some Kähler manifold \(Y\) such that \(Y\) admits a \(\phi g^k\phi^{-1}\)-equivariant holomorphic fibration \(\pi:Y\rightarrow Z\) with \(\dim Y>\dim Z>0\) for some \(k\geq 1\). Assume that \(g\) is strongly primitive and has positive entropy. The main results of the paper under review are as follows: The number of \(g\)-periodic prime divisors of \(X\) is bounded from above by the Picard number \(\rho(X)\). If \(\dim X=3\) is projective, then every \(g\)-periodic prime divisor of \(X\) containing infinitely many \(g\)-periodic curves is itself \(g\)-periodic. If \(\dim X\geq 2\) with algebraic dimension \(a(X)>0\) then \(X\) is projective. Under additional assumptions on \(\kappa(X)\) and \(q(X)\) the structure of \(X\) is described in more detail. Among other methods the author applies results of the theory of group actions on Kähler manifolds as given in \textit{D. J. Liebermann} [Lect. Notes Math. 670, 140--186 (1978; Zbl 0391.32018)] and \textit{A. Fujiki} [Invent. Math. 44, 225--258 (1978; Zbl 0367.32004)] and also structure theorems for algebraic varieties and the minimal model program for projective threefolds.
