Continuous maps \(f\) on compact manifolds \(M\) with sequences \(\Phi\) of subadditive potentials are considered in this paper. The authors are addressing a basic problem, namely, when \(\Phi\) has negative growth rates for almost all \(x\in M\) with respect to some \(f\)-invariant probability measure \(\mu\), how can one choose a subset of points of positive Lebesgue measure such that the largest growth rates are also negative? These points are called optimal state and have applications to stability of linear control systems. With some assumptions like the Bowen specification property on \(f\), the authors give several positive answers to the question above. The paper is interesting. The proof is based on several recent works on ergodic theory.
