A singularly perturbed two-point boundary-value problem (BVP) of the form \[ -\varepsilon u''(x) - p(x)u'(x) = 0, \] where \(0 < \varepsilon \ll 1\), \(0 < \beta \leq p(x) \leq \overline{\beta}\), \(| p'(x)| \leq \overline{\beta}\), and subject to the Dirichlet type boundary conditions \(u(0) = 0\), \(u(1) = 1\) is solved numerically by using an adaptive grid method. The mesh is constructed adaptively by equidistributing a monitor function based on the arc-length of the approximated solutions. A first-order rate of convergence, independent of the parameter \(\varepsilon\) is established using the theory of the discrete Green's function. The main difference between this work and some of the earlier works is that the BVP considered here is not of conservative form, which give some additional difficulties in the error analysis.
