The salary data were taken from Sports Illustrated, April 20, 1987. The salary of any player not included in that article is listed as an NA. The 1986 and career statistics were taken from The 1987 Baseball Encyclopedia Update published by Collier Books, Macmillan Publishing Company, New York. The team attendance figures were obtained from the Elias Sports Bureau, personal conversation. \N\NThe data consist of data on the regular and leading substitute pitchers in 1986 of North American Major League Baseball players. \N\N### Attribute information \NThere is one line per pitcher. The variables are: \Npitcher's name, \Nplayer's team at the end of in 1986, \Nplayer's league at the end of 1986, \Nnumber of wins in 1986, \Nnumber of losses in 1986, \Nearned run average in 1986, \Nnumber of games in 1986, \Nnumber of innings pitched in 1986, \Nnumber of saves in 1986, \Nnumber of years in the major leagues, \Nnumber of wins during his career, \Nnumber of losses during his career, \Nearned run average during his career, \Nnumber of games during his career, \Nnumber of innings pitched during his career, \Nnumber of saves during his career, \N1987 annual salary on opening day in thousands of dollars, \Nplayer's league at the beginning of 1987, \Nplayer's team at the beginning of 1987.
