Let \(\mathbf{A}\) be a locally finitely presented additive category and let \(\mathbf{C}\) be a set of finitely presented objects. The main result of the paper proves that for any object \(Y\) of \(\mathbf{A}\) and any submodule \(H\subseteq\mathrm{Hom}_{\mathbf{A}}(\mathbf{C},Y)\), there exists a morphism \(\alpha:X\rightarrow Y\), unique up to an isomorphism, satisfying the following two properties: (1) \(\mathrm{Im Hom}_{\mathbf{A}}(\mathbf{C},\alpha)=H\) and any morphism \(\alpha':X'\rightarrow Y\) with \(\mathrm{Im Hom}_{\mathbf{A}}(\mathbf{C},\alpha')\subseteq H\) factors through \(\alpha\); (2) Any endomorphism \(\phi:X\rightarrow X\) with \(\alpha\phi=\alpha\) is invertible. It is also showed that a flat cover in \(\mathbf{A}\) is in fact a projective cover in a certain abelian category.
