The authors define an \(s\)-higher-order Lie algebra to be a Lie algebra equipped with an \(s\)-linear skew-symmetric bracket satisfying a generalised Jacobi condition. A higher-order simple Lie algebra is a higher-order Lie algebra associated to a simple Lie algebra. The authors state the following theorem. Given a simple Lie algebra \({\mathcal G}\) of rank \(l\), there are \(l-1\) \((2m_i-2)\)-higher order simple Lie algebras associated to \({\mathcal G}\). They are given by the \(l-1\) Lie algebra cocycles of order \(2m_i-1>3\) obtained from the \(l-1\) symmetric invariant polynomials on \({\mathcal G}\) of order \(m_i>m_1=2\). The case \(m_1=2\) reproduces \({\mathcal G}\); for the remaining cases the skew-symmetric \((2m_i-2)\)-commutators define an element of \({\mathcal G}\) via the \((2m_i-1)\)-cocycles. These higher order structure constants are fully antisymmetric and satisfy the generalised Jacobi condition. Proofs of this result are included for simple Lie algebras of type \(A_l\), \(B_l\), \(C_l\) and \(D_l\).
