After the breakthrough paper [\textit{N. Fusco} et al., Ann. Math. (2) 168, No. 3, 941--980 (2008; Zbl 1187.52009)], several authors achieved analogous stability estimates for problems in calculus of variations of isoperimetric type. A valuable up to date survey is [\textit{N. Fusco}, Bull. Math. Sci. 5, No. 3, 517--607 (2015; Zbl 1327.49076)]. The first two authors of the paper under review have achieved a different proof of the sharp quantitative isoperimetric inequality based on a selection principle (see [\textit{M. Cicalese} and \textit{G. P. Leonardi}, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 206, No. 2, 617--643 (2012; Zbl 1257.49045)]). In [\textit{F. Maggi} et al., Indiana Univ. Math. J. 65, No. 6, 1979--2050 (2016; Zbl 1381.49051)], an improved convergence theorem for \(2\)-clusters in the planar case was established. Here, a sharp quantitative estimate for the so called ``double-bubble'' isoperimetric problem in the planar case is proved. The proof is based precisely on the above mentioned improved convergence theorem for \(2\)-clusters, a selection principle and an ad hoc analysis of the problem involving an expansion in spherical harmonics.
