Part I, cf. ibid. 91, 321-339 (1996; Zbl 0890.58025). The topology of the iso-spectral set of real tridiagonal \(N \times N\) Heisenberg matrices with distinct real eigenvalues, with all elements directly above the main diagonal equal to unit is studied. It is shown that this set is a \(N-1\)-dimensional non-compact manifold \(M_N\). A flow is defined on \(M_N\) through a Lax pair equation whose Hamiltonian corresponds to an ``indefinite Toda lattice'', in the sense that some forces are attracting and some repelling. Using this flow, the manifold \(M_N\) can be compactified by identifying the singular points of the flow in terms of zeros of a family of exponential functions. It is shown that the compact manifold \(\hat{M}_N\) obtained that way has the symmetry group of a semi-direct product of \(\mathbb{Z}_2^{N-1}\) and the permutation group \(S_N\) and is non-orientable for \(N>2\).
