    The author studies the time evolution of density \(\rho =\rho (t,x)\) and velocity \(\vec u=\vec u(t,x)\) of a general barotropic fluid occupying a bounded spatial domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) \((n\geq 2)\) and governed by Navier-Stokes system: \(\partial _{t}\rho +\operatorname {div}(\rho \vec u)=0\), \(\partial _{t}(\rho \vec u)+ r\operatorname {div}((\rho \vec u)\otimes \vec u)+ \nabla p(\rho)=\mu \Delta \vec u+ (\lambda +\mu)\nabla (\operatorname {div}\vec u)+\rho \vec f\). Here \(p\) is the pressure, \(\mu ,\lambda \) are the viscosity constants satisfying \(\mu >0\), \(\lambda +\mu \geq 0\), and \(\vec f=\vec f(t,x)\) stands for a given external force density which is a bounded and measurable function of time \( t\in (0,T)\) and spatial coordinates \(x\in \Omega\). The system is complemented by no-slip boundary conditions \(\vec u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega\). On certain hypotheses on the pressure, the author proves that \(\rho,\vec u\) is a finite weak solution for the above problem assuming that \(\Omega\) is a bounded Lipschitz domain. Besides, the author proves some results on the amplitude of oscillations and on the propagation of oscillations.
