The authors analyze a class of simple Nyström discretizations of the hypersingular integral equation for the Helmholtz problem on two-dimensional domains with smooth parametrizable boundary. The proposed method depends on one parameter that is related to the staggering of two underlying grids. The authors show that two parameter choices produce convergent methods with order two of convergence. All other stable methods provide a linear rate of convergence. Here, the convergence is shown in uniform norm for the density function and for the potential postprocessing of the solution. Finally, some numerical results are provided to illustrate the performance and the theoretical rate of convergence of the method.
