In this paper, the authors deal with \(N\)-dimensional second order elliptic equations with a drift term \(b\cdot \nabla u + \operatorname{div} (bu)\). The unicity of the solution is achieved when the drift \(b\) belongs to \(\left( L^\infty\right)^N\). The study, in the framework of renormalized solutions, shows the existence of a solution for any \(b\in \left( L^2\right)^N\), but there are not unicity. In a second part of the paper the authors consider the homogenization process with the drift \(b_n\) weakly converging in \(\left( L^2\right)^N\). In this case, in the limit equation, an extra term \(\mu u\) appears, where \(\mu\) is a non-negative Radon measure.
