The authors prove that the following viscous Canard-Hilliard type problem \[ \begin{cases} \alpha\partial_t \mu+\partial_t u- \Delta\mu=p(u)\left(\sigma-\gamma\mu\right) \\ \mu=\alpha\partial_t u-\Delta u + \mathcal{W}'(u) \\ \partial_t \sigma-\Delta \sigma=-p(u)\left(\sigma-\gamma\mu\right), \end{cases} \] posed in \(\Omega\times(0,+\infty)\), \(\Omega\) being a domain of \(\mathbb{R}^3\), and where \(\alpha\) and \(\gamma\) are positive constants, \(p\) a nonnegative function and \(\mathcal{W}\) a double well (or more general) potential, complemented with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial data in \(H^1(\Omega)\), admits a unique strong solution which is global in time. In addition, they study the long time behavior of the solution, characterizing the \(\omega\)-limit set, in the general case and providing more detailed information under some additional assumption on \(p\) and \(\mathcal{W}\). Finally, for a more specific class of potentials, the solution of the problem with \(\alpha>0\) is proved to converge weakly, as \(\alpha \to 0\) and up to subsequences, to a solution of the problem with \(\alpha=0\), which is shown to be unique when the initial datum \(u_0\) satisfies the regularity conditions \(u_0\in H^2(\Omega)\), \(\partial_\nu u_0=0\) on \(\partial\Omega\). The techniques are based on some a priori estimates together with weak and strong compactness arguments in the considered spaces.
