This paper is devoted to the equations of motion of three coaxial vortex rings in Euclidean 3-space. The authors consider this problem in the framework of Hamiltonian (non-integrable) system. Using KAM theory together with the Poincaré-Birkhoff fixed point theorem, the authors show that a (non-integrable) Hamiltonian system of three coaxial vortex rings possesses a dynamical behaviour that mirrors that of an (integrable) system of three point vortices in a plane, provided that the inner-ring distances are sufficiently small compared to the radii of the rings. Several examples are solved numerically to show transitions from quasiperiodic and periodic to chaotic regimes in accordance with the theoretical results.
