For an N/G/1 finite queueing system, the joint stationary distribution of the queue length and the elapsed waiting time is derived. This yields a new formula for the queue length distribution which the authors claim to have computational advantages over the formula by \textit{C. Blondia} [Commun. Stat., Stochastic Models 5, No. 2, 273-294 (1989; Zbl 0673.60102)].
