2-Coverings of classical groups

Abstract: In this paper we show that if

is any of the groups

S p_{2 n} (q)

odd,

O m e g a_{2 n + 1} (q),

O m e g a_{2 n}^{p m} (q),

then

G

and the simple group

are not 2-coverable. Moreover the only 2-covering of

S p_{2 n} (q),

with

even, has components

O_{2 n}^{-} (q)

and

O_{2 n}^{+} (q) .
