A limit theorem for selectors

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Any (measurable) function K from mathbbRn to mathbbR defines an operator mathbfK acting on random variables X by mathbfK(X)=K(X1,ldots,Xn), where the Xj are independent copies of X. The main result of this paper concerns selectors H, continuous functions defined in mathbbRn and such that H(x1,x2,ldots,xn)inx1,x2,ldots,xn. For each such selector H (except for projections onto a single coordinate) there is a unique point omegaH in the interval (0,1) so that for any random variable X the iterates mathbfH(N) acting on X converge in distribution as Noinfty to the omegaH-quantile of X.
