Tldr We present a unified integral-based framework for preconditioning f(A)b that decouples the preconditioner evaluation from Krylov subspace generation, resolving a trade-off between spectral compression and numerical stability. We develop two distinct directions: rational shift-and-invert with stabilized extraction of poles, and matrix-free polynomial preconditioning with exact LR-deflation targeting critical low modes near singularities.
