An irreducibility criterion for integer polynomials

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Let f(x)=sumlimitsi=0naixi be a polynomial with coefficients from the ring mathbbZ of integers satisfying either (i) 0<a0leqa1leqcdotsleqak−1<ak<ak+1leqcdotsleqan for some k, 0leqkleqn−1; or (ii) |an|>|an−1|+cdots+|a0| with a0eq0. In this paper, it is proved that if |an| or |f(m)| is a prime number for some integer m with |m|geq2 then the polynomial f(x) is irreducible over mathbbZ.
