Asymptotic Behavior of Eigenvalues of Hankel Operators

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We consider compact Hankel operators realized in ell2(mathbbZ+) as infinite matrices Gamma with matrix elements h(j+k). Roughly speaking, we show that if h(j)sim(b1+(−1)jb−1)j−1(logj)−alpha as joinfty for some alpha>0, then the eigenvalues of Gamma satisfy lambdanpm(Gamma)simcpmn−alpha as noinfty. The asymptotic coefficients cpm are explicitly expressed in terms of the asymptotic coefficients b1 and b−1. Similar results are obtained for Hankel operators mathbfGamma realized in L2(mathbbR+) as integral operators with kernels mathbfh(t+s). In this case the asymptotics of eigenvalues lambdanpm(mathbfGamma) are determined by the behaviour of mathbfh(t) as to0 and as toinfty.
