Summary
Comparison of three spatial interpolation methods applied to a synthetic dataset of 30 irregularly spaced observation points (white circles). The four panels show: (top left) the raw measurements at irregularly spaced locations with values encoded by colour; (top right) Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW, distance exponent p = 2); (bottom left) Ordinary Kriging with a fitted spherical variogram; (bottom right) Thin-Plate Spline interpolation. The underlying synthetic surface consists of two Gaussian peaks. All panels share the same colour scale (viridis "inferno").
