Fixation soil water equation

From MaRDI portal

Description

This equation computes a soil water limitation factor for nitrogen fixation based on topsoil moisture relative to field capacity and wilting point. Fixation is reduced when soil moisture falls below a threshold fraction of available water capacity and is not limited when soil moisture exceeds this threshold. The formulation represents moisture stress effects on symbiotic activity.

Formula(s) and Quantities
FXWi={SW3i−WP30.85(FC3−WP3)ifSW3i<0.85(FC3−WP3)+WP31.0ifSW3i≥0.85(FC3−WP3)+WP3
FXW represents nitrogen fixation soil water factor
SW3 represents soil water content of upper soil layer
WP3 represents soil water content of upper soil layer at wilting point
