Geometric structure of NLS evolution

Abstract: We clarify the relation between the Hamiltonian and Lagrangian approaches to nonlinear evolution equations, focusing specifically on the nonlinear Schroedinger equation. In particular, we explain the least action principle and the Noether theorem in this context.
