Inverse spectral analysis for finite matrix-valued Jacobi operators

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Consider the Jacobi operators cJ given by (cJy)n=anyn+1+bnyn+an−1∗yn−1, yninCm (here y0=yp+1=0), where bn=bn∗ and an:detane0 are the sequences of msm matrices, n=1,..,p. We study two cases: (i) an=an∗>0; (ii) an is a lower triangular matrix with real positive entries on the diagonal (the matrix cJ is (2m+1)-band mpsmp matrix with positive entries on the first and the last diagonals). The spectrum of cJ is a finite sequence of real eigenvalues l1<...<lN, where each eigenvalue lj has multiplicity kjlem. We show that the mapping (a,b)mapsto(lj,kj)1Noplusadditionalspectraldata is 1-to-1 and onto. In both cases (i), olinebreak (ii), we give the complete solution of the inverse problem.
