The author defines the class of weakly ordered semigroups. This class consists of the finite monoids \(S\) for which there exists an upper semi-lattice \((L,\preceq)\) and two maps \(C\colon S\to L\) and \(D\colon S\to L\) such that the following conditions are satisfied: (1) \(C\) is an epimorphism of semigroups, (2) if \(u,v\in S\) are such that \(u\in uvS\) and \(uv\in uS\) then \(C(v)\preceq D(u)\), (3) if \(u,v\in S\) are such that \(C(v)\preceq D(u)\) then \(uv=u\). It turns out that such a semigroup has a partial order \(\leq\), where \(u\leq v\) if \(v\in uS\). The following result is proved for a weakly ordered semigroup \(S\) and a field \(K\). The radical of the semigroup algebra \(KS\) is \(\ker(C)\) (where \(C\) is linearly extended to \(KS\)), and its nilpotency index is at most the length of the longest chain in \((S,\leq)\).
