Two-dimensional QCD with fermionic or bosonic matter fields is discussed from the point of view of geometric quantization. It turns out that many of the mathematical ideas are simpler for bosons, since the phase space admits a global coordinate system. In the case of fermionic systems, the appropriate phase spaces are coset spaces of unitary groups called the Grassmannian. The respective large-\(N_c\) phase spaces are identified as the infinite-dimensional Grassmannian and the infinite-dimensional disc. The Hamiltonians are quadratic functions and the resulting equations of motion for these classical systems are nonlinear. Linearization of these equations in the bosonic case leads to the scalar analog of the 't Hooft equation.
