A generalization of Cowen's characterization of hyponormal Toeplitz operators (Q1331656)

The author extends an elegant result of \textit{C. C. Cowen} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 103, No. 3, 809-812 (1988; Zbl 0668.47021)] on the hyponormality of Toeplitz operators to a class of (generalized) Toeplitz operators. In order to do this by a commutant lifting approach, he studies the operator equation \(H_ A= H_ B T_ C\), where \(H_ A\), \(H_ B\) are (generalized) Hankel operators and \(T_ C\) is an analytic Toeplitz operator. Related results about the range inclusion of Hankel and Toeplitz operators are also obtained.
