The authors calculate the rational homotopy type of \(\text{aut}_1 M\) in a number of cases. Here \(\text{aut}_1M\) is the identity component of the space of homotopy self-equivalences of the homogeneous space \(M = G/H\), where \(G\) and \(H\) are compact connected Lie groups. They show that \(\text{aut}_1 M\) has the rational homotopy type of a (calculable) finite product of odd spheres in case \(\text{rank} H = \text{rank} G\), extending a result of Meier. In case \(H\) is a maximal torus of \(G\) they show that the universal covers of \(\text{aut}_1 G/H\) and \(\prod_i [\Omega^i G]^{b_i (G/H)}\) have the same \(R\)-homotopy type, where \(b_i\) is the \(i\)-th Betti number and \(R\) is the smallest subring of \(\mathbb{Q}\) containing 1/2, 1/3 and \(1/p\) for \(p < (\dim (G/T) + 1) 2\). They also calculate the rational homotopy groups of \(\text{aut}_1 M\) in the cases where (i) \(T\) is a torus, or (ii) \(M = \text{Sp} (n)/ \text{SU} (n)\). In the latter case \(\text{rank} G - \text{rank} H = 1\). The results are obtained in terms of the homotopy and rational homology of \(M\). Some results continue ones made by Notbohm and Smith.
