In the paper under review the \(q\)-deformed Virasoro algebra \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\) is defined as the \(\mathbb{Z}\)-graded associative algebra with generators \(\{c, l_ m \mid m\in \mathbb{Z}\}\) and relations \(cl_ m= q^{2m} l_ m c\) and \(q^{m -n} l_ m l_ n- q^{n-m} l_ n l_ m= [m-n] l_{m+n}+ \delta_{m+n, 0} {{[m-1] [m] [m+1]} \over {[2] [3] (q^ m+ q^{-m})}} c\). It is assumed that \(q\in \mathbb{C}\) is not a root of unity. A \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\)-module \(V\) is called a Harish-Chandra module if \(l_ 0\) acts semisimply on \(V\), all weight spaces (i.e. eigenspaces of \(l_ 0\)) are finite-dimensional and \(1/ (q- q^{-1})\) is not a weight. It is shown that every indecomposable Harish-Chandra \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\)-module is \(\mathbb{Z}\)-graded with weight spaces. It is also shown that such modules with unbounded dimensions of weight spaces contain either a highest weight or a lowest weight \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\)-module. In particular, an irreducible Harish-Chandra \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\)-module is either a highest weight module, a lowest weight module or a bounded module (i.e. with bounded dimensions of weight spaces). It is conjectured that in the bounded case (and \(| q|\neq 1\)) a nontrivial irreducible module must be isomorphic to one of the four explicitly constructed classes -- a so called \(q\)-analogue of Kac's conjecture [cf. \textit{O. Mathieu}, Invent. Math. 107, 225-234 (1992; Zbl 0779.17025)]. The main result is related to this conjecture: it gives a complete list of indecomposable Harish-Chandra \(U_ q (\text{Vir})\)-modules with one- dimensional weight spaces.
