The aim of this work is to extend to high dimensions a result by Phong and Stein, proved for \(\mathbb{R}^2\), concerning averaging operators along curves. This fact is related to a general problem of finding sharp Sobolev estimates for Fourier integral operators whose canonical relation is not a canonical graph. The author proves sharp \(L^2\) estimates for Fourier integral operators from \(C^\infty_0(\mathbb{R}^n)\) into \({\mathcal D}'(\mathbb{R}^n)\), with so-called \(k\)-folds \((k\geq 1)\), where the Lagrangian is the conormal bundle of a submanifold of codimension \(n-1\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{R}^n\). The author also obtains a new proof of a result by Melrose and Taylor (for the case \(k=1\)) without the assumption that the Lagrangian is a conormal bundle.
