Let \(H\) and \(L\) be two \(k\)-algebras that are also \(k\)-coalgebras (but not necessarily \(k\)-bialgebras). The authors introduce the notion of smash biproduct as a combination of smash product and smash coproduct. This construction includes the bicrossproduct of two Hopf algebras of \textit{S.~Majid} [J. Algebra 130, No.~1, 17-64 (1990; Zbl 0694.16008)] and \textit{D.~E.~Radford}'s product [J. Algebra 92, 322-347 (1985; Zbl 0549.16003)]. In the last section, an interesting class of Hopf algebras is constructed as smash biproducts of a group algebra and a vector space that is an algebra and a coalgebra.
