The structure consists of \(n\) identical particles, arranged in a ring, interconnected and hinged to the ground by weakly nonlinear springs. The averaging method is applied to study effects of the nonlinear interaction between the pairs of modes with identical frequencies under a suitable spatially distributed harmonic excitation. The authors study in detail various bifurcations leading to travelling waves, chaotic amplitude modulations, multiple chaotic attractors, etc.
