It is well known that if the potential \(q\) in the Sturm-Liouville equation \[ -y''+qy=\lambda^2y \] on the half-axis \([0,\infty)\) decays exponentially, i.e. \[ q(x)=O(e^{-ax}), \] then the function \(\Psi(\lambda)=:\psi(0,\lambda)\cos\alpha+\psi'(0,\lambda) \sin\alpha\) where \(\psi(\lambda,x)\) is the Jost solution, can be analytically continued into the half-plane \({\text Im}\lambda>-{a\over 2}\). The authors investigate in some detail the nature of the analytic continuation of \(\Psi\) for some types of potentials, such as 1) \(q(x)=e^{-ax}p(x)\) with \(p(x)\) periodic; 2) \(q(x)=cx^be^{-x}\); 3) \(q(x)=O\{e^{-xf(x)}\}\), with \(f(\infty)=\infty\) and some other. The resonances, i.e. the zeros of \(\Psi(\lambda)\) in the lower half-plane are determined numerically for some cases.
