Let \(D\) be a skew field with involution and let \(\operatorname{Sym}D\) be the set of all symmetric elements. A subset \(P\) of \(\operatorname{Sym}D\) is called a \(*\)-ordering if the following five conditions hold: (1) \(1\in P\), \(P\cap (-P)=\{0\};\) (2) \(P+P\subseteq P\); (3) \(r^{*}Pr\subseteq P;\) (4) \(P\cup (-P)=\operatorname{Sym} D\) for any \(r\in D\); and (5) \(ab+ba\in P\) for all \(a, b\in P.\) A \(*\)-ordering of \(D\) induces an ordering on the field \(K\) of its central symmetric elements. Let \(F\) be an ordered field extension of \(K\). The authors prove that the central extension of \(D\) by \(F\) exists and admits a \(*\)-ordering extending the given \(*\)-ordering of \(D\) and the ordering of \(F\).
