The Jovanovic isotherm model is an empirical adsorption model derived as a modification of the Langmuir concept of monolayer adsorption. It assumes mobile adsorbate molecules on a uniform surface without lateral interactions, but introduces an exponential term that alters how the surface approaches saturation. The model reduces to Henry’s law at low solute concentration and predicts finite saturation at high concentration. Compared with Langmuir, the Jovanovic model approaches saturation more slowly, making it useful for systems where uptake curves exhibit gradual leveling. It is occasionally applied in chemical wastewater treatment but is less widely used than other monolayer models.
